  3. Rapid increase in demand for hearing protection devices

A report by Persistence Market Research has predicted a significant rise in demand for hearing conservation devices that provide protection from loud noises.

Global sales of hearing protection devices were worth 1.7 billion US dollars in 2021. The report forecasts that sales will grow by an annual compound growth rate of 10.1% and be worth 2.8 billion US dollars by 2031.

There are a variety of ear protection devices available, including earmuffs, earplugs, and ear defenders. There is an increasing awareness of the need for hearing protection and compliance with safety regulations that protect workers in noisy environments.

The construction and manufacturing industries have a high demand for ear protectors. Musicians who play live are vulnerable to hearing loss. A study by the US Hearing Health Foundation discovered that 40% of musicians suffer from some type of hearing loss caused directly by their work.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advises that controlling noise levels is preferable to ear protection devices, but where this is not possible, employers must provide hearing protectors. If noise levels are not high enough, ear protectors don’t have to be issued, but if an employee asks for them, they must be provided. Workers need training in how to use and care for hearing protection devices. Areas, where ear protectors are compulsory must be marked with warning signs.

Ear protectors that eliminate all noise are not recommended as they can prevent communication between workers and audio warning signals may not be heard.
